Trenchard House was a former police hostel, which had been vacant for over 10 years. A&Q Partnership were employed as the production architect on the mixed use scheme of commercial and retail spaces and 78 flats, a mixture of 65 key worker units and 13 private, 2 & 3 bedroom luxury penthouse apartments.
The building includes for 10% wheelchair adaptable apartments with Lifetime Homes Standards included throughout. Private underground car parking caters for 18 vehicles and 4 motorbikes, cycle storage for 144 cycles and includes 4 electric vehicle charging points.
The scheme was designed to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 by developing a strategy that reduces energy consumption and carbon emissions and generates on-site power by using gas-fired CHP in combination with Photovoltaic panels; by limiting the use of and recycling water; by choosing materials that are both contextual and have a low environmental impact; and by providing facilities to manage and recycle the waste generated by the development.
The luxurious development displays a high level of specification, with an exclusive Concierge and superior quality of finishes throughout, including unique features such as bespoke glass panels with integrated gold mesh.
The project incorporates highways improvements and traffic calming measures as well as enhancements to the public realm. The ground floor and lower ground floor fronting onto Broadwick Street provide a range of commercial uses, including a restaurant and retail outlets.
