Woolwich Urban Regeneration
Woolwich, London, UKFor Berkeley Homes (East London) Ltd
As part of the largest regeneration site in Europe, the residential zone of the Royal Arsenal at Woolwich, covering 10.2 hectares (25 acres), incorporates some 940 new residential units.
Having played an integral part in the history of the Royal Arsenal, the Listed Buildings on the site have been converted to accommodate high specification, refurbished apartments complete with original features. Elsewhere, modern architecture has been sensitively integrated with the period facades, to extend and enhance the redundant industrial buildings. Woven into the framework of the site are a series of new buildings, ranging from period town houses to large apartment blocks, reflecting the scale and pattern of this historic landmark.
The project achieved the CABE Building for Life Gold Award and the BURA Best Practice Regeneration Award, as well as many other industry accolades.
