Castle Business Park, Stirling, ScotlandFor HSBC Bank Plc
Sitting at the foot of Stirling Castle, with views of the Wallace Monument and the hills beyond, the proposed fit out of this building first needed to overcome the critical limitations of its initial construction. The lack of mechanical ventilation, and resulting requirement to introduce fresh air through open windows was unacceptable to a highly secure operation, and the proposal was therefore to introduce mechanical ventilation throughout the space, served from a roof mounted AHU.
However, given the status of Stirling Castle as a Category A Scheduled Monument of international importance, it was necessary to design a carefully detailed enclosure of appropriate scale that integrated the new structure into the overall composition, protecting the visual amenity of both near and distant views of the site.
Adhering to HSBC’s Global Workplace Standards, 274 workstations were envisaged for the workplace itself, with space efficiencies delivered through the adoption of ‘flexible’ 1 to 1.25 desk-sharing ratio. The workplace includes numerous breakout spaces featuring interactive whiteboards to encourage collaborative working, as well as dedicated resource areas to ensure an uncluttered visual aesthetic. The requirement for numerous meeting rooms, gymnasium, café for 160 covers, server rooms and games area added to the complexity, but helped to generate the clear special strategy for the project.
