A&Q were commissioned to produce a feasibility study to develop the area along Lamb Street currently being used as an underground car park, and to address Market Street’s current lack of identity.

Due to the site’s location the visiting demographics are completely contrasting and can vary from office workers to fashion designers. It is this contradiction that makes the site fascinating, exciting, complicated and also confusing.

Entering Lamb Street from Commercial Street you are welcomed by some of the finest retail boutiques. However, this exciting, vibrant street quickly changes to a cold ‘back of house’ feeling as you approach the commercial office building.

Our proposal tackles this negative change by providing a continuation of the retail outlets from Commercial Street, encouraging small start up businesses to occupy the ground floor and creating a strong visual impact running through the length of the site. Residential units are located on the first and second floor interspersed with open green spaces. An outdoor cinema and gallery provide an anchor to the scheme, creating much needed activity to this part of the street. Key to the scheme is the creation of a strong brand and a recognisable visual language that will in turn give identity to this area.
