New England Quarter
Fleet Street, Brighton, UKFor Denne Construction Ltd
Site J of the New England Quarter forms the final phase of Brighton Railway Station’s regeneration masterplan.
The project comprises 147 shared-ownership and private flats across two buildings of seven and eight storeys, with ground floor commercial/retail units and extensive public realm works.
The site is immediately to the east of the main line station and the scheme frames key visual links and provides strategic pedestrian routes through the site to the wider regeneration area and public open space to the east.
The site was formerly part of the railway goods yard. It is a steeply sloping site bisected by a 5m high Victorian brick retaining wall and railway embankment, both of which have strongly influenced the architectural form. Brick facades are articulated with deeply recessed windows, which give a weight to the principle elevations.
Landscaped communal roof gardens and allotments are provided for the resident’s use.
