For Ilchester Estates
Formerly a farm building attached to an ancient farmhouse in the village of Evershot, Ilchester Estates decided to implement a planning consent to convert to a dwelling. The Estates’ approach is to build for the long term and, with a waiting list for properties belonging to the Estate, their business model has been to turn out conversions using their own in-house team of builders working to the highest standards.
This former neglected barn was converted to a high quality house with a central woodburner stove, chilled wine cabinet and walk in showers.
The unusual feature of the barn is that one corner is in a stream. After a bit of fishing in the stream with a structural engineer it transpired that the corner of the barn had been washed away! Steel channels are now strapped along two sides and cantilever out to carry the corner of the building.
Internally, existing oak trusses and purlins have been retained and a new oak truss created which is walked through to access the upper floor bedrooms.
This is just one example of many that we have worked on for Ilchester Estates.
